Every photo on this site was shot by our family, out on the trails of Western North Carolina — these mountains are as much a part of this brand as anything that goes in the bottle.
Brother Nature Beards got its start years ago with Scott Youngerman, a U.S. Navy veteran who was medically retired after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Scott grew up around natural remedies — his parents ran a health store stocked with essential oils — and he built this brand to prove that a real setback doesn't have to be the end of the story.
In the years since, this little beard company has been through more than most: a pandemic, changes in ownership, and Hurricane Helene tearing through the mountains we call home. We weren't owners yet when Helene hit, but Western North Carolina took a serious hit, and our family spent weeks doing disaster response for our neighbors — that's just what you do when your community needs help. We are proud the brand made it through all of that and is still standing.
My wife, Casee, and I were customers of Brother Nature Beards long before we were the owners. We first found it years ago on a shelf at Harrill & Harrill, Jason Harrill's shop in Forest City, NC — one bottle of oil that actually worked, and we were hooked. Jason was burning the candle at both ends keeping up with it all, and that's when the idea took hold: buy it, and help it grow. This year, we did just that, with one goal in mind: get this product into the hands of a lot more people like us.
Brother Nature Beards is family-run in every sense — my wife and our two boys are involved in every part of it, start to finish. When we're not working, you'll find us on a trail somewhere in Western North Carolina with a camera in hand, and that's not a coincidence: every photo on this site is one we took ourselves, out in these mountains. Our focus now is simple — keep everything that made this brand worth buying in the first place, and get it in front of a lot more beards.
The family behind the beard.
